Brief Introduction to Research Interests and

Academic

Achievements

Prof. Jia Liu is the winner of the Outstanding Young Scholar Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). She has been selected as the Fundamental Research Talent of the IWHR Five Big Talents Program. She is also the member of the Innovation Team for Water Cycle Simulation and Efficient Utilization of Water Resources in River Basin, supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Prof. Liu’s main research focus is on the atmospheric-hydrologic simulation and prediction, and the impact of climate change on water cycle. Long-term “meteorology-hydrology-climatology-sociology” interdisciplinary research has been carried out based on numerical weather modeling, weather radar and satellite remote sensing, multi-source variational data assimilation and global/regional climate modeling, etc. Recent research interests include:

(1)  Modeling the atmosphere-land surface processes and their two-way interactions;

(2)  “Space-air-ground” multi-sources observational data assimilation;

(3)  Quantitative rainfall prediction by merging numerical weather modeling and weather radar nowcasting;

(4)  Global/regional water cycle simulation and prediction under climate change;

(5)  Real-time monitoring and forecasting of disasters caused by extreme weathers;

(6)  Data mining and artificial intelligence techniques in modern hydrology.

Prof. Liu has engaged in more than 20 national key research projects funded by the NSFC, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, etc. She has been awarded the provincial science and technology prizes for 8 times, including one first-class prize as the first contributor. More than 80 papers are published in peer-reviewed journals, among which more than 40 papers are published as the first or corresponding author in well-known international hydrometeorological journals, e.g., Water Resources Research, Hydrology and Earth System Sciences, Journal of Hydrology, Hydrological Processes, Remote Sensing, International Journal of Climatology, and Atmospheric Research, etc. As the first inventor, Prof. Liu has been granted more than 30 national or international invention patents.
