Q: How can I apply for the master's or doctoral program in China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research?
A: IWHR Graduate School shall receive and check the documents following the brochures of the current year. Applications with incomplete documents or after the deadline will not be processed.
IWHR Graduate School shall review submitted documents based on applicants’ basic information, target major, education background, academic performance, working and research experiences and abilities, reference letters. Applicants who submit completed documents and meet all requirements will be informed to participate in online interviews.
There are two interviews, qualification check by Graduate school and formal interview by experts panel.
Experts in relevant areas shall give a mark (out of 100 points) to each candidate according to English language proficiency, professional ability and comprehensive quality during the interview. The interview time for each applicant should be within 30 minutes.
IWHR Graduate School is responsible for summarizing the interview results and convening conference for International Students Education Management Committee in which each candidate will be marked comprehensively based on submitted document and interview performance. The calculation method of the final score is listed below:
1) Application document (professional achievement, English language ability, research experience, etc.) accounts for 50%.
2) Online interview accounts for 35%.
3) The Background of applicants and referees accounts for 15%.
The recommendation list of applicants should be listed according to the final score of each candidate, which will be ranked from higher to lower.
International Students Education Management Committee shall submit the recommendation list to the IWHR President Administrative Council in which the final decision of admission list will be given.
IWHR Graduate School shall publish the admission list, inform the admitted candidates, ensure their studying inclination at IWHR, send the admission letter and visa application Form. The actual admitted candidates should subject to the registration of international students.
Q: What kind of scholarship can I apply and how to apply?
A: China Institute of Water Resource and Hydropower Research (IWHR) offers full or partial scholarship to the qualified applicants. The application procedure of scholarship is in accord with the admission for international students.
Q: Is there age limit for IWHR Scholarship applicants?
A: Master’s degree applicants must be under the age of 35,doctoral degree applicants must be under the age of 40.
Q: What is the requirement for Chinese language skill?
A: There is no special requirement during the application for students’ Chinese proficiency for the Master’s program or doctoral program. We encourage the applicants to learn about Chinese in advance for studying and living in China later. Besides, international students should pass at least HSK 3 (international standard for Chinese language proficiency) before graduation.
Q: What is the requirement for English language skill?
A: You should meet either of the following conditions:
Graduates from English-speaking countries and graduates from universities where English is the medium language;
IELTS: overall score of 6.0 or above;
TOEFL: overall grade of 80 or above.
Q: When should I take the written test, the interview, etc.?
A: All the tests or interviews will be arranged by IWHR Graduate School, and the notice will be released openly.
Q: What if I’m in my last year of my master’s program, can I still apply for the Ph.D program?
A: Yes, you can still apply. You can submit the pre-graduation certificate from your current academic institution. Once you are admitted, you should submit the graduation certificate and degree certificate no later than registration. If you fail to do so, your admission will be canceled.
Q: Do you have any requirements for the recommendation letters?
A: The referee must be associate professors or higher in the related academic field, and whose signature and contact information should be included in the letter. The letter has to be original. No photocopy, scan, or fax is accepted. For doctor candidates, there should be one recommendation letter from his master-degree supervisor.
