On April 8th and 9th, 2023, students and teachers from IWHR attended the 695th Tsinghua University doctoral academic forum. Held by the Department of Hydraulic Engineering of Tsinghua University, the forum aims to provide an open platform for all graduate students of water-related majors from universities nationwide. 37 universities and research institutions had eagerly responded to the call on this forum, such as Tsinghua University, IWHR, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Sichuan University, Tongji University, Tianjin University, Sun Yat-sen University, Hohai University, Henan University, etc. A total of more than 70 representatives of teachers and students made on-site reports. Sintayehu, a 2019 international PhD student of our institute, won the Forum Excellent Report Award; Hou Wentao, PhD student of Grade 2022, made an excellent presentation.

At the opening ceremony on August 8, Li Danxun, director of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering of Tsinghua University, Yang Xingguo, dean of the College of Water Resource and Hydropower of Sichuan University, and Zhang Jisheng, deputy dean of the College of Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering of Hohai University, respectively delivered opening speeches. The forum consists of 4 sub-sessions, covering 10 topics including hydraulics and river dynamics, marine science and engineering, rock & soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering, engineering structures and materials, resources, environment and climate change, carbon neutrality, engineering project management, big data and intelligence, intelligent construction, and disaster prevention and reduction. The teachers and students attending the meeting had all-round, multi-level and wide-ranging in-depth exchanges of views through invited reports and academic presentations.

The forum has enhanced the communication and understanding between teachers and students of our institute and other universities and institutions, enhancing the popularity and influence of our graduate education. Graduate School will take this opportunity to further strengthen the academic exchanges and cooperations with domestic and foreign universities, promote the high-quality development of graduate education, and continue to contribute to the development of IWHR "entering the forefront of world-class scientific research institutes".
