Experience China - International Students Learned to Make Small Lanterns

On December 24th 2023, international students of IWHR learned to make small lanterns in the activity organized by Ganjiakou Subdistrict.

“Making lanterns in China, surrounded by the colorful tradition of this beautiful art, was a delightful new experience for me. I was warmly welcomed by everyone, from the kind elderly to the energetic kids. Making lanterns was more than just an art; it was a doorway to understanding and embracing the rich culture in China, making me feel like a true member of this vibrant community.”

Sana Nazli, an international PhD student of IWHR

The activity was instructed by Mr. Zhang Shuangzhi, a former senior modeler from IWHR Department of Structures and Materials. He’s also the master craftsman and successor of “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Haidian District”. The international students learned carefully and followed step by step to make the lanterns. At the end of the activity, all students completed the lantern by their own hands, and achieved a special sense of accomplishment.

Experience China is a series of engineering practices and cultural experience activities organized by IWHR since 2023. The purpose is to promote students’ awareness and understanding of China's contemporary development and traditional culture, as well as enhance their sense of honor.
